CEO Adam Garone Brings Fun and Change to Starlight
Nonprofit Executive of the Year
Starlight Children Foundation’s CEO Adam Garone was named Nonprofit Executive of the Year by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2024 for his exceptional nonprofit leadership and initiative to spur transformative change at the organization.
"Have Fun, Do Good" Philosophy
Adam’s philosophy is “Have fun, do good.” He exemplified this during his time at Movember Foundation, a global charity that has raised more than $1.5 billion for men’s health. As co-founder, Adam used his digital expertise to encourage fun and impactful fundraising activities.
Adam understands the key role fun plays in building resilience. “I’ve learned that when you’re tackling sad and tough topics, incorporating the elements of fun can have several important impacts,” Adam said in an interview with Forbes.
These impacts include emotional relief, openness about difficult circumstances, and promoting a positive outlook.
Stars Aligning
Adam was drawn to Starlight when he saw how his philosophy aligned with Starlight’s mission.
Starlight aims to help kids and their families navigating a serious illness experience happiness and fun through its programs. With happiness and fun at their bedsides, hospitalized kids can find a sense of respite and resilience to continue to endure.
Starlight’s mission is also close to Adam’s heart because he understands the situation of the children and families that Starlight aims to support. Adam’s niece Charlie was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018, so he can empathize with the emotions and challenges a family may face when a child is diagnosed with a serious illness.
Under Adam’s leadership, Starlight has significantly increased its impact, revenue, and organizational transparency.
